In a report it is said that while India is still at the forefront of the progress of the KPO idustry, a number of other viable KPO sourcing hubs. The Philippines have emerged in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Philippines along with China and Sri Lanka, may not yet topple India’s dominant position in the market, however enabled many vendors to pursue a multi-shore strategy. Being able to dliver services from multiple locations means providers can offer existing clients greater flexibility and minimize the risk associated with having all their operations in one facility, this is base to Ed Thomas the Ovum analyst and author of the report.
The Knowledge Process Outsourcing industry is maturing and the range of services being provided has expanded. The definition of KPO currently includes a variety of services from its initial beginning in research and analytics such as legal process outsourcing and clinical trial management. A major challenge facing life sciences companies is the growing cost of R&D, a growing number of pharma companies are turning to outsourcing and offshoring as ways of reducing these costs. China is an attractive locations for companies that run and manage all phases of the clinical trial process as it offers a significant pool of potential patients in an important market.
The Philippines is also becoming an increasingly important player in the KPO market. The market is expected to expand significantly during the next few years, with a notable increase in demand coming from the US as a result of the recent reforms in healthcare regulations. it has started to carve out a niche for itself in a number of key areas.
The Sri Lanka focused on the developing skills around specific services lines. For instance, the country has a significant number of qualified accountants that is capable of providing the kind of high-end complex tasks that is associated with the service areas like the equity and credit research. The Ovum said that the recent emergence of countries such as China, the Philippines and Sri Lanka as the viable locations for Knowledge Process Outsourcing delivery has been a positive progress development.
