In the 1990s, the use of Microsoft Excel and Access that grew at unfettered often under Information Technology radar. Spreading quickly through large companies as a development platform for users is the vendor’s Office SharePoint Server. Using SharePoint tools mature as the Web sites, workflows, dashboards and electronic forms built. The users are turning to surprised Information Technology operations for support. It also assumed that the application-development group would support them, but that supports required to specialized skills that neither that group or the company’s operations group had.
By the multiple major gaps in SharePoint’s application-development capabilities, the problems can be exacerbated. The application life-cycle management or the ALM features in SharePoint are incomplete.
There are other major gaps in SharePoint for application development noted in the report, this include:
*Availability, Reliability and scalability features are not well understood.
* Enterprise data integration for SharePoint is primitive.
*SharePoint skills are scarce.
* Tools to upgrade SharePoint 2003 3.0 and 2007 are limited.
To prepare adequately for the use of SharePoint as a development platform, the companies must first whether or not to replace .Net or other of the programming methods with SharePoint and what types of application will be endorse to be created using SharePoint.
There is also other practices that is noted in the report, it includes:
* Keeping SharePoint customization to a minimum
*Requiring that all new code be evaluated for a quality and safety
* Defining an information governance policy
* Building an ALM environment.
This is to show that outsourcing has a biggest part in the world. People should know the importance of outsourcing, though others do not want to outsource but still this is the best. Like in our company we have the best performance because of outsourcing techniques.
